My name is Ms. Blank and I am a graduate of St. Joseph's College. Catholic education has always been very near and dear to my heart. I have attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Mary's for elementary and middle school. I continued on to St. Anthony's for high school. I want to help young children have a faith filled journey that coincides with their education.
I am so excited to begin my second year in first grade for the 2019-2020 school year.
**Extra help will be offered at 7:15 Monday mornings moving forward. It will also be held 3-3:30 on Monday afternoons. Please submit a note by the Friday before if your child is to attend**

Religion
Please begin with a prayer of your choice today.
This assignment will be due on March 31st.
We would like to know what students and their families are doing to bring themselves together as a family during these unique days. We would love to hear stories about things you are doing as a family and as individuals to bring yourselves together during this time—in particular spiritual things, but also practical things.
The children may submit a poem, letter, or video with the intent of us sharing these stories with our community in order to inspire, unite and encourage. We are all stronger together!
ELA Grammar
In the packet that went home please complete the two pages on contractions and the two pages on plurals (4 total) You may STOP once you reach page 85. I know some people already completed some pages when it originally went home. If so, not a problem at all and there's no need to resend the work. Thank you!

Please read any book that you have at home. When you are done I would like you to compare YOUR story to our weekly story, Where Does Food Come From? Tell me if/how they are the same. What's Happening This Year?
This year first graders will become more independent and develop their critical thinking skills. The students will expand and improve their writing. Most writing assignments will include some type of project component. This helps the children get excited about their writing!Reading will be done as a whole class, in small group and one on one. Students will learn various clues and ways to decipher unfamiliar words. They will be asked questions that require them to think “outside the box.” First grade also focuses on story elements such as setting, characters, and theme.
In math the children will learn multiple strategies to add and subtract numbers. New vocabulary will be presented for each topic.During science, the students will perform and participate in various experiments. They will see first hand what it’s like to be a scientist! After each experiment they will record and write about what they saw.
In social studies, the first graders will learn all about our community. They will be introduced to the people who work in the community and make it a wonderful place to live.
All content area will be centered around religion. The children will discuss ways that our religion is involved in everything we do. Each student will develop a deeper understanding of lent as well.
