    • Welcome Parents!

"We pride ourselves on our academic excellence, but we are most proud of the feeling of family you get when you walk through our doors. It's a special part of our school community. At St. Martin's, you can be sure when you drop your children off at our school, they are cared for, nurtured, and challenged. Likewise, we take pride in giving parents a sense of safety and a commitment to excellence when we welcome their children to our school."Principal Rod Parisi

      Schedule a School Tour!

    • "There were many reasons that we initially decided to tour St. Martin of Tours School when our oldest child was approaching three years old. The school was located close to our home, we had many friends that attended the school and whose children who attended as well and of course we were very interested in instilling our children with a solid catholic education. However, once we actually went on our tour, we learned that there was so much more to St. Martin of Tours School. The sense of community that you immediately felt was incredible. The children assisting with the tours were eager and excited to show off their amazing school. The teachers and facility were kind, welcoming and very proud of their school as well. St Martin’s has so much to offer beyond a great education, there are so many clubs, events and programs that are available to my children. Seven years later we still know enrolling at SMT was one of the best decisions we ever made."

Kindergarten is a time to foster your child’s curiosity and natural love of learning, emotional, and study skills that they will use throughout their schooling.

    • 1st Grade

    • First graders will become more independent and develop their critical thinking skills. The students will expand and improve their writing. Most writing assignments will include some type of project component. This helps the children get excited about their writing!

Reading will be done as a whole class, in small groups and one on one. Students will learn various clues and ways to decipher unfamiliar words. They will be asked questions that require them to think “outside the box.” First grade also focuses on story elements such as setting, characters, and theme.

In math, the children will learn multiple strategies to add and subtract numbers. New vocabulary will be presented for each topic. Children will count over 100 and develop a level of abstract thinking.
    • During science, the students will perform and participate in various experiments. They will see firsthand what it’s like to be a scientist! After each experiment, they will record and write about what they experienced.

In social studies, the first graders will learn all about our community. They will be introduced to the people who work in the community and make it a wonderful place to live.

All content areas will be related back to religion. The children will discuss ways that our religion is involved in everything we do. Various saints are covered throughout the year. In addition, each student will develop a deeper understanding of Lent.

    • 2nd Grade

    • Second graders are very busy! We love to learn, explore, and play together!

A Typical Day in 2nd Grade:
      • They start their day with morning work. Morning work is usually math or reading review work.
      • One day a week, second graders attend morning mass at 8:30.
      • Our mornings consist of attending a Special which could be Art, Music, PE, Library, or Spanish.
      • Then they have a morning snack break before they begin Math class.
      • Eat lunch, then go outside to play recess. Second graders are very lucky as they get an extended recess time of 20 minutes each day.
      • After recess, the students listen to calming music while they write and draw in their journals.
      • The students will then complete their iReady math or reading assignments.
      • Next, the students will complete their Reading/English Language Arts activities for the day.
      • We love to take brain breaks after Reading/ELA. We do fun movement activities for the whole class.
      • During the afternoon we complete science and/or social studies. We love to work on activities and experiments as well as fun group projects.
      • Second graders are very inept at creating projects on their Chromebooks too!
      • Later in the afternoon, we have an afternoon snack and outside play on the playground.
      • By this time, we are ready to pack up and go home!
    • 3rd Grade

    • Third Grade is an exciting year of discovery and learning. There are many new things going on for this grade. Students are growing in responsibility, organization and independence. Third Grade children learn how to write their homework down in a planner, take notes, as well as use chrome books and Google Classroom for assignments. They develop a new proficiency in technology as they research, cut, paste and write stories. They grow in awareness of others as they develop empathy and a caring attitude.

Third Grade is a fun place to be. Every day is an adventure! Come join us!

In Math, third graders are eager to learn and use multiplication tables. They are empowered as they do but must always, practice, practice, practice! Place-value, fractions, and practical applications of the material from our Envisions curriculum are also part of Third Grade learning. These promote critical and abstract thinkers.

Oftentimes, Social Studies topics are woven into the other subjects. In Social Studies students learn about resources, human capital, occupations, geography, economies and so much more through their My World text. Many other sources are used to enhance the student experience of Social Studies as Third Graders. We use online resources, such as zoo websites, national geographic, and various articles from Scholastic and read works to enhance learning.

In English Language Arts we have been using the Journey’s curriculum, trade books and many other means to communicate a love of reading and writing to our Third Graders.

      Genres explored include:

      • realistic fiction
      • trickster tales
      • biographies
      • informational text
      • narratives
    • Students participate in reading as active learners and readers. Response to reading opportunities arise through projects, art, presentations, research, and creative writing. The stories we select foster character building and support our Catholic identity in terms of respecting the world around us and one another. Third graders also work to master the discipline of cursive writing. They enjoy doing it and take pride in their skill.

Our Religion classes facilitate the development and the practice of our faith tradition as we share lessons, time and Mass together. Third Graders attend Mass weekly and on First Fridays. Religion lessons encompass the Liturgical Calendar and what our church teaches. The text we use is Sadlierś and called,¨We Believe.¨ Social Emotional Learning develops through our faith walk, hospitality, caring and respecting others.

      • The Water Cycle
      • Weather and Life Cycles
      • The Moon

      Religion
In religion basically each chapter is a commandment that we focus on and learn more about.

    • 5th Grade

    • Religion

Grade 5 focuses on the Sacraments using the Sadlier We Believe book this year; their importance independently and what is needed to obtain each. We outline how we become close to God through each Sacrament and how we carry each received Sacrament with us in our daily lives, with the goal of becoming closer to Jesus. One can never be done growing closer to God, we each can look deeper into ourselves and find ways to become closer. We discuss community service although it isn't part of the 5th grade curriculum, many students recognize many of the actions they do are a form of community service and the benefits on each person individually and as well as a society as a whole. Community Service requirements begin in 6ht grade in preparation of the Confirmation. 5th graders are very inquisitive and absorb information through conversations blended with reading and activities. They want to be loved and accepted and by showing how God is a part in all we do and how to keep God in all we do, is brought to the forefront of each lesson, not just in religion. I find when Father Gordon pops into class, we are given the opportunity to ask him questions giving deeper insight of our faith and how to deepen it. The students always have engaging questions that Father takes the opportunity and offers as much information the children can digest. He is great at this!

The students will build on their faith and knowledge of God. They will learn about their religion and the traditions of their religion.

      Science
In 5th grade, the students learn brief but informative parts of all sciences, such as, Biology, Earth Science, and Life Science. This will help prepare the students for learning these topics in depth in their following years here at SMT.

      English Language Arts Curriculum
      • Increase each student's vocabulary and approach to understanding new vocabulary through literature and informational texts
      • Increase comprehension in both literature and nonfiction texts
      • Writing coherent sentences/paragraphs, using proper grammar, spelling & mechanics to convey information
      • Read novels that are currently recommended by the current standards or seasoned educators as a whole class but use differentiated reading when students are completing their reading journal assignments weekly
      • Students work together at times, in both small and large groups to enhance listening for information
      • Students are encouraged to demonstrate information/directions/information that is both given orally and written
    • Social Studies Skills
All students enrolled in social studies are expected to provide the following skills

      • Gathering, interpreting, and using evidence
      • Chronological reasoning
      • Comparison and Contextualization Skills
      • Geographic Reasoning
      • Understanding of economics and economic systems
      • Civic Participation

      Social Studies Curriculum
5th Graders will learn all about North America!
      • Geography of North America

      • Understanding of the United States economy, and its role as a global trading center

      Community Service
Though 5th grade is not responsible for completing community service hours, the goal is to make the students aware of what community service is to prepare them for 6th grade. Make the students aware of the community they live in and how they should be grateful and appreciative of their community and what they have been given. Have the students do fun things to give back to their community.
