Third grade is full of discovery and learning. Below is an overview of what we will cover in each subject throughout the school year.

• ELA: Students will explore different types of texts and genres in their Wonders book. They will use their reading/writing companion to help them think more deeply about each text read. Third graders will also use their practice book to strengthen their grammar, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, and handwriting skills.

• Math: Content covered in math topics 1-16 include: Operations and Algebra, Measurement and Data, Numbers and Computation, and Geometry. Third graders will also be introduced to multiplication and division. 

 

• Science: In science, students will investigate questions, learn about the engineering process, plants and animals, weather, matter and the Earth. Third graders will engage in lab and science activities throughout the year.

 

• Social Studies: Students will learn about communities, government, symbols, economics and much more! They will better understand the world around them all while covering the core social studies standards. Students will also read various Scholastic News articles throughout the year.

 

• Religion: God is who we lift our hearts and minds to when we take part in prayer. The Word of Life curriculum we will be using this year includes practical situations and concrete examples of virtuous and holy character. Students will learn that it is by living in alignment with God’s plan for us that we will find our greatest happiness here on earth and in eternity. They will understand that God is active in their lives through the liturgy and sacraments.
